Animal Control
LAWRENCE ANIMAL CONTROL RECOMMENDS AN IDENTIFICATION
TAG ON EACH PET WITH YOUR ADDRESS AND PHONE NUMBER
Animal Control has three full time employees and their hours are 7:00 am to 8:00 pm, Monday through Friday and 8:00 am to 5:00 pm on weekends. In case of an animal captured after hours, Animal Control Officers are on call and may be called out at the discretion of a Police Supervisor. The Humane Society should be called for after hours situations involving injured animals.
When an at large animal is picked up, it is taken to the Lawrence Humane Society, 1805 E. 19th, by Animal Control. Animal owners need to call the Humane Society at (785) 843-6835 and verify that their animal is there. If the Humane Society has the animal, and it was picked up by City Animal Control, owners will need to come to the Police Station before the animal will be released. Humane Society hours are 10:30 am to 6:00 pm, seven days-a-week, excluding holidays. The pick up fee will be at least $10.00. Citations are possible for animal control violations.
